The 3 Best Cars for Cougars?

November 11th, 2009, 11:32 am by Matt Degen

2010panamera

MotherProoof.com, an automotive site geared for women, knows there are many “cougars” on the prowl these days, and that these ladies need worthy wheels in which to get around. With that in mind — and citing TV shows such as “Cougar Town” and “Desperate Housewives” — the site has named its top three cars for these older women who are on the hunt for younger guys.

Do you agree with MotherProof’s three choices for 2010?

1) Porsche Panamera. “Truly the coolest Porsche we’ve seen,” the site says of the car, pictured above. “This four-seater combines the legendary Porsche reputation for quality with great looks and a driving style even the most finicky Cougar-thusiast will appreciate. We liked the opportunity to select multiple sport modes as well as the exhaust amplifier button.

2) BMW Z4. “This roadster makes anyone look and feel sexy driving it! Bolstered seats and racy road-feel cater to the most assertive class of Cougars.”

3) Jaguar XF: “This fanciful feline may be the purrrrfect fit for the queen of all cougars. Completely new styling and tons of luxurious features will appeal to even the most expert couture lovers.”

My Totally Hot Car: 1973 Jaguar E-Type

November 6th, 2009, 10:03 am by Matt Degen

Our latest Totally Hot Car is a classic Brit. Say hello to this 1973 Jaguar E-Type OTS owned by Jamey Holbrook of San Clemente.

Holbrook has owned this car since 1999 and gave it a “recent cosmetic freshening.”

“It’s a great driving car,” Holbrook says. ” It’s typically best on freeway drives to Santa Barbara, San Diego, Temecula, etc.  I take it to shows and Jag meets mostly.  Much more of a GT / cruiser than a back road sports car.”

Holbrook adds that there is “plenty of power and torque from the 5.3 liter V12 engine - single overhead cams and 4 Stromberg carbs - (making) around 300 hp. (It) rides and drives very smoothly like a Jag should.”

Thanks for sharing your car and story with us, Jamey: Your Jag is Totally Hot!

First drive: Supercharged Jaguars tear up El Toro

May 19th, 2009, 10:55 am by Matt Degen

It’s not too often that I get invited to thrash around $100,000 luxury cars on the deserted tarmac of the El Toro Marine Base, so when Jaguar presented that opportunity last week, I only had to mull the decision for about a nanosecond before saying yes.

Friday’s event was part of Jaguar’s “Legendary Performance Tour,” which is stopping at half a dozen sites around the U.S. to promote its latest souped-up luxury liners, the XFR sedan and XKR coupe.

Jaguar is using the promotional tour ahead of the cars’ summer arrival on dealer lots to not only spark interest in a weary auto-buying public, but to put its motors where its mouth is regarding the performance capabilities of its U.K.-built cars.

During the events, media folk such as us here at Auto Motion and specially selected customers (both existing or potential) are invited to check out the new cars and get behind the wheel, both for aggressive driving on a race course as well as on the street.

Bauer Jaguar to merge with sister store in Newport

January 16th, 2009, 5:00 pm by Matt Degen

Bauer Jaguar in Santa Ana, which has been in place for more than 40 years, announced today that it will be “transitioning business” to its sister store, Jaguar Land Rover Newport Beach.

“The economic climate combined with the recent opening of our neighboring Newport Beach store makes this the most effective option for the business,” said General Manager Nesh Sekulic.

“We plan to retain much of our staff to ensure a seamless transition for our loyal clients. Our clients can look forward to a bigger and better service experience as we combine resources with our sister store in Newport Beach,” Sekulic said.

Employees were notified of the move today. The dealer would not say how many of its roughly 60 workers would go to the new dealership or be laid off (if any). Inventory was also in the process of being moved to the Newport site.

Jaguar Land Rover Newport Beach opened its facility at 1540 Jamboree Road in January 2008. The dealership has a seperate service center at 2101 Dove St. in Newport Beach.
