Henrik Fisker, the man behind Irvine-based Fisker Automotive, is the cover subject of the June issue of Forbes.
The magazine, which pictures Fisker standing next to his coming Karma luxury plug-in hybrid, proclaims “The Next Detroit.”
The story by Joann Muller goes on to profile Fisker and other upstart auto companies such as San Carlos-based Tesla Motors that are paving a new path in an automotive landscape pocked with failures; basically that as giant automakers such as Chrysler and GM flail, independent players such as Fisker could be the ones to lead the auto industry to success once again.
In the article, Fisker says, “The biggest transition in the 100-year history of the auto industry is going to happen in the next 24 months.”
Those are big words from a man with even bigger ideas for what the automotive future holds.
Yet the article also begs the question, Are upstarts such as Fisker — and the men behind them — the next Ford and GM, or the next DeLorean and Tucker?

It will be, but not in the way Mr. Fisker envisions; let the Irvine Company keep chasing businesses out, and watch the unemployment rate rise while the property values continue to fall.
“The Next Detroit”? Bad analogy Fisker, unless you see your outfit circling the drain.
